SIX PICTURES: Charlwood House

The core of this large building, now a nursery school, is an early-17th-century timber-framed house with jettying at one end and a tile-hung upper storey. The tiled roof uses Horsham stone. An extension was built in the same style in the 20th century.

  1. I lived in this house from the age of 6-12 or 14. It was the most magical childhood home and I still am in love with it. I am currently writing a book where two chapters are set here. In these pictures, I can't see the moat or the stone bridge. ALso, the lake at the back where my father built a cabin. I am now living in Los Angeles and was looking through pictures to help me describe the magnetic force of this house. We moved in after Mrs. Lois. My father was Mr James Roberts. Any history that can be dug up would be much appreciated. I have an old newspaper clipping from a day when I was 6 and reporters came up the path to photograph the house. Is the house that Barry Sheen lived in the same? It looks different except for the bedroom, which was once a chapel.
