ELEVEN PICTURES: Tilgate Lodge (Barclays Bank, Three Bridges)

Tilgate Mansion, on the site of what is now the Smith & Western restaurant, was built in the 1860's and Tilgate Lodge, near Three Bridges, marked the original entrance to the estate. Part of the driveway to the Mansion still exists in the form of Tilgate Drive (also known locally as Black Alley & Conker alley) which runs from Haslett Avenue to Ashburnham Road.

The Mansion was demolished in 1965, but the lodge still remains and had been a branch of Barclays Bank until September 2017 when it cashed up for the final time. As of October 2017, the future of the sandstone lodge is uncertain.

The building is NOT on the statutory list of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, but it is listed locally by Crawley Borough Council.
